Composition Biography
Mr. Raboy is an experienced composer, arranger and educator. He is unique in that his music is immediately accessible to audiences, sophisticated enough to please professional musicians, and well crafted to insure successful performances. Mr. Raboy’s focus is on passion making him refreshing after an era of cold, technical perfection.
He has had a number of orchestral works commissioned and performed. Most recently, Leon Bates premiered Concerto for Piano and Orchestra to critical and popular acclaim. The Hudson Valley Philharmonic under the baton of Imre Pallo presented his first orchestral composition, Gymnopedies. The Binghamton Philharmonic recently commissioned and performed Phoenix ( John Covelli, conducting) and four symphonic works ( A Mystic Valley, Orchestral Dances, King Lear and Of a Distant Love) received their first performances with the Napa Valley Symphony, conducted by the composer.
Additionally, Mr. Raboy has composed an opera for children, a piano sonata, other chamber music, band compositions, choral works and songs.
He also has arranged many classical works for string quartet and trio for use in educational programs. He has created numerous Young Peoples Concerts, which include scripts, props and some staging; these programs have brought him much acclaim.
Mr. Raboy holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. His composition teachers include Leonardo Balada and Ezra Laderman.
